The file names of DICOM files on a standard DICOM CD/DVD should be capital alphanumeric up to 8 characters with no suffix. ![]() The DICOMDIR file include key attributes from the data on the media such as Patient Name, Patient ID, Study ID, Study Date. DICOM images can be displayed using a program called a ‘DICOM viewer’. DICOM files contain the images along with details about the patient, the scan that generated the image and the characteristics of the image itself. For instance, DICOM-compliant data CDs contain a DICOMDIR at the root level which contains a description and access information for all the studies on the CD. ![]() The DICOMDIR file format has been defined to organize the access to off-line DICOM part 10 files.
